Class of '60 Lunch
The Colorado Springs locals met on 20 April for our monthly lunch get-together. Ron Yates, John McCullough Dick Sexton, Dick Schehr, Jim Glaza, Pete Roe, Gordon Savage, Jim Waddle, Denis Walsh, George Pupich, Andi Biancur, and Bruce Mosier, braved the CAVU weather and spring fever to make an appearance This month we were fortunate to have Jeff Mielke, Class of ’80 – you might recall, that was the first class with real women – brief us on the upcoming Olympic and Para-Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August. Jeff, the Associate Director Estate & Organizational Giving for the USOC, gave us a great feel for the upcoming games and the U.S. preparation from both the management and athletes positions. We came away with the distinct impression that Rio will be ready in time but still have a few wrinkles to work out. There is little question that the logistics of getting all of the people and material from the U.S. to Brazil will be an enormous task. The USOC plans to simplify the effort by marshalling everything in Houston, Texas prior to sending it by either ship or air.

Class of '60 Lunch
As has become the case, the Class of 60 Colorado Springs contingent met at the USAFA Falcon Club – Terrace “A” on Wednesday 16 March for our monthly luncheon. Present were: Jim Glaza, Dick Sexton, Jim Waddle, Andi Biancur, George Pupich, Gordon Savage, Tony Bilello, Dave Reed, Wayne Kendall, Dick Schehr, Fred Porter, Jack Brush, Pete Roe. Following a great lunch consisting of German food and the usual wide-ranging discussion on various topics, we settled down to an interesting presentation by Dick Schehr on the pros and cons of managing rental properties. Dick and his wife Sharon have tons of experience owning and managing several houses as rental property over the last thirty years. Following Dick’s insightful presentation, Dick Sexton added comments gained from his personal history in owning rental residential properties. George Pupich was heard to comment that he found it much easier to manage agricultural property where he did not have to deal with people.
If I could summarize their conclusions, such activity can be quite profitable – done correctly, but always very stressful. I think the rest of us would opine that we are glad we are too far along in life to want to take on any like projects.
Our next meeting in April will see a discussion of previous Olympic Games and possibly a look at the future summer Olympic Games to be held in Brazil this August.
