2016 Mini-ski Reunion
MINISKI XXVI–2016
MiniSki XXVI—the final demonstration of skill and agility on the slopes in Utah occurred from 19-20 February, 2016. After consultation with our President & CEO, Al, and Chief Instructor Greg, we elected to terminate the fully scheduled annual ritual in favor of future free-form ski events.
Relative to previous years, the attendance was down as fewer risk-takers were able to answer the call this year. But, having said that, those intrepid enough to test their aging skills, held their own against nature and advancing maturity. The group, composed of Jerry delaCruz, his daughter AnnaMarie, Ron & Connie Yates, Ralph Lalime, Andi & Carole Biancur, Greg Boyington, June Colgan, her daughter and Son-in-law, Machelle & Menocheur, their daughter Catherine, and Jack Howell '59 stepped up to the challenge. The weather cooperated, more-or-less, and the snow was great. Our time together was, as always, a highlight of the week
Of course we did miss such staples as Al, How do you like me now?, Johnson, Howie, Bear turned Honey Bear, Bronson, and Gene & Jane, Chili King & Queen, Vosika '59, who for legitimate reasons could only join us in spirit.
Although we decided to forego the award of the Marginally Magnificent Performance Award for this last session, one milestone was met. The privilege of skiing free at Alta Ski Area for those over 80 was finally met by our senior instructor Greg and fellow '59er Jack.
A quick trip down memory lane as this group, minus Jerry delaCruz met the challenges of the Snow Gods in 2013 at MiniSki XXIII. It is intended to represent all of the members of the Class of 1960 and others that have come to Utah over the twenty six years. Without each individual, we could not have had the fun and comradery that has given us the memorable experiences we have all enjoyed.
In reality, it would be great if we could pass this unique tradition, along with the MMPA Cup and Attendance Plaque, along to a younger class to continue what has become a very noteworthy and enjoyable annual event. If anyone has ideas of how we can pass this on, please let Al Johnson know.
