Gone But Not Forgotten
The Association of Graduates has recently learned of the death of Lt Col (Ret) Alfred L. Freathy, CS-18 class of 1964. Lt Col Freathy passed away on 12 Aug 2013 in Shalimar, FL after a battle with cancer. A funeral service was held on 17 Aug 2013 at the McLaughlin Funeral Home, 17 Chestnut Ave SE, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548. Burial was at Beal Memorial Cemetery.

Alfred Lionel (Al) Freathy, age 70, passed away on August 12, 2013, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. He was born in Dayton, OH, to Albert Edward Freathy and Delta Stubblefield Freathy. Al grew up the son of military parents and moved frequently until settling in Clinton, MS where he made many lifetime friends. Al attended the Air Force Academy, graduating in 1964, and beginning his 1964 year Air Force career as a pilot. Additionally in 1964, he married the love of his life, Sandra Kay, beginning their 49 years together. After Al's tour in the Vietnam War, they moved frequently to assignments in Alabama, Arizona, Ohio, Florida, Virginia, where Al continued his military service as a pilot flying F-4 Phantom jets, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and developing a nationally recognized expertise in air to ground weaponry. They claimed Shalimar, FL as their home town before and after his retirement in 1985 and he continued consulting for the Air Force until 2012 culminating over 50 years of professional support of the Armed Forces. When away from work he enjoyed growing exotic orchids, photography, and travelling to visit with family.
Al lost his life to an aggressive cancer, multiple myeloma. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Freathy; a daughter, Sharon, and her husband, Jason Segars, of Wetumpka, Ala., with three grandchildren, Sarah, Jonothon, and Jeremey; a son, Brad and his wife, Tammy, of Lithia, Fla., and three more grandchildren, Audrey, Bradley, and Blake. He was preceded in death by his parents. Al took great pride in the achievements of all of his family and was always ready to share their latest successes.
