Neal's History
As a young boy from a farm in Southern Illinois, attending the Air Force Academy was a dream come true. Although at many times it seemed more like a nightmare, in retrospect it was easily the turning point of my life. Aside from my wife (1), children (3), and grandchildren (6 so far), there is nothing in my life that I am more proud of than having graduated with the USAFA class of 1964.
After graduation and marriage, I attended pilot training at Moody Air Force Base. From there, I went to Charleston AFB and flew C-141's. I then spent a year in Ohio training in AC 119-K's, after which I separated from the Air Force. I continued flying 141's with a reserve unit at Norton AFB in California while joining Pacific Southwest Airlines and moving to San Diego. My career as an airline pilot lasted until my retirement (from USAir after a 1988 merger) as a Boeing 767 captain in 1999.
My wife, Shirley, and I moved to Anthem, Arizona in 2005. Our oldest daughter, Heather, is a music teacher and lives in Glendale, Arizona with her husband and 3 children and our second daughter, Heidi, works in food service and lives in Prescott, Arizona with her husband and 3 children. Our son, Wade, decided to see the world and is currently teaching English at a University in Korea.
I am currently actively involved as co-owner and VP of Silver Nickel Mining Co. a mineral exploration company in Arizona.
