Gone But Not Forgotten
Colonel LeRos E. Hull, United States Air Force Academy Class of 1964, died in an automobile accident on 6 April 1994 near Santa Clarita, CA.
Skip reported to the Academy from Dallas, TX. While at the Academy, he was a member of the 22nd Cadet Squadron. He sang with the Cadet Chorale for 3 years.
Upon graduation, Skip was assigned to Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance AFB, OK, where he trained with Class 66-B. In 1966, he was an RF-4C pilot/systems operator the 22nd Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Toul-Rosieres AB, France. In 1966-1967, he was a pilot with the 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at TanSonNhut AB, South Vietnam. From 1967 to 1971, he was a pilot in the 1st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron in Alconbury RAF Station, England. From 1971 to 1971, he was assigned to Hurlburt AFB, FL. From 1973 to 1974, he attended Auburn University where he earned a Master's degree in Economics. From 1975 to 1982, he was assigned to Shaw AFB, SC serving in various positions including Commander of the 33rd Tactical Reconnaissance Training Squadron. In 1982 and 1983, he commanded the 964th Airborne Warning and Control Squadron at Tinker AFB, OK. From 1983 through 1985, he served in positions of increasing responsibility, including an assignment at Headquarters USAF, Washington, DC.
Skip retired from the Air Force in January 1986. He was a program manager with the Lockheed Advanced Development Group in Palmdale, CA at the time of the accident.
Colonel Hull was awarded the Legion of Merit, 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 12 Air Medals, and the Commendation Medal. He had attended the Air Command & Staff College and the Air War College.
