My Photo Memory Bank
They say a picture is worth 1000 words. I've selected a few photos that always rekindle memories of great times with classmates and our ladies -- and my association with the United States Air Force Academy.
My loving wife, Nancy, and I at the 45th reunion of the Class of 1964. We met on a blind date in 1974 when I was coaching football at the Academy. It must have been love at first sight, because we were married six months later. I adopted Nancy's two daughters, Hollie and Heather, who were two and five years old, respectively, at the time. Over the years, our family has grown to include four grandchildren -- Ashley, Thomas, Lauren and Ava. This photo courtesy of Darryl Bloodworth.
Al McArtor, Mike Galbreath, Jim Bowman and I at a reception honoring "Bo" for his decades of service at the Academy. We shared stories about our basic cadet training experience, with Bowman telling everyone how together we lost over 100 pounds and reported for fall football looking like skeletons.
At the 10th reunion of the Class of 1964, a group of us ended up at the same table, retelling some old war stories. We had such a great time that we planned another reunion a couple of years later -- in Cancun. Then another in Tucson ... followed by others in Sarasota, FL; Great Falls, VA; Sedona, AZ; and Las Vegas. We call the group the Aging Aviators.

Terry and Mike Galbreath at our cabin in Pinetop, Arizona. When were looking for a second home in the White Mountains, we saw a little brown cabin nestled back in the pines. When I saw the address -- 6464 Bucksprings Road -- that was it! Our door is always open for classmates.
During the Lorber's visit in 2007, we went to Greer for lunch at the Greer Lodge and had a chance meeting with John Hoffman, who also has a home in Pinetop. There's always time for a mini-reunion.
John and Susan Lorber were our partners for the 2007 Spring Fling in Pinetop. The golf was just an excuse to be together for more good times -- and we succeeded beautifully!

We missed the rest of our teammates -- Todd Jagerson, Dave Sicks, Gil Achter, and Parke Hinman. Hopefully, we'll all be back for our 50th!

Tom Browning and I had just teed off on the first hole at the Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club when my cell phone rang. It was Hans Mueh, the Athletic Director at USAFA, who informed me that I was one of six persons selected in the second class of the Academy's Athletic Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony in May 2009 was truly one of the highlights of my life. It was most special because of those who were there to share in the celebration with me: my family, many friends from Arizona and the Academy community, and especially my teammates and other members of the Class of 1964 -- Darryl Bloodworth, Tom Browning, Brett Dula, Bob Hovde, Jim Ingram, Max James, John Lorber, Allan McArtor, Steve Ritchie, Joe Rodwell, Dave Samuel, and Thad Wolfe.
The capstone of my association with the Academy was my appointment to the USAFA Board of Visitors by Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert, in the fall of 2005. While appointed for a one year term, I served on the Board for four years, actually longer than my time as a cadet. The presentation of the Commander's Public Service Award in December 2010 marked an association with the Academy that had come full circle from cadet ... to football coach ... to member of the Board of Visitors.
