Tom's History


Colonel Robert T. Jobin, USAFA Class of 1964, reported to the Academy on 27 June 1960 from Elmhurst, IL. While at the Academy, he was a member of the 24th Cadet Squadron and the varsity gymnastics team, serving as team captain his firstclass year.

Following graduation, Tom reported to Undergraduate Pilot Training at Moody AFB, GA. From 1965 to 1968 he was a pilot with the 86th Military Airlift Squadron (MAS) at Travis AFB, CA flying C-130 and C-141 aircraft. In 1968 and 1969, he was an airlift controller assigned to the 834th Air Division, Nha Trang Air Base, South Vietnam. He returned to the states in 1969 and was reassigned to the 86th MAS at Travis flying C-141s. In 1971 Tom was married to Alana Dibert. From 1971 to 1973, Tom earned a Masters degree in EE from Cal State University in Sacramento. In 1972 Tom's first son, Scott was born.

Following graduate school, Tom was assigned as a Developmental Engineer at the Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill AFB, UT flying T-29 and C-118 in the rated supplement. Mike Jobin was born in 1973 and Christine in 1976. In 1977, he returned to the cockpit with the 41st MAS at Charleston AFB, SC flying C-141s. From 1979 to 1982 he served as a pilot and operations officer with the 625 MAS at Torrejon AB, Spain. In 1983, Tom was assigned to Holloman AFB, NM, where he served as Chief of the Guidance Test Division and later Vice Commander of the 6585th Test Group. He retired from active duty on 29 February 1988.

Following his Air Force career, Tom went to work for DynCorp as a systems site manager for the Radar Backscatter Advance Measurement Program at Holloman AFB, NM. He held positions of increasing responsibility on White Sands Missile range with succeeding contractors, EG&G and later Johnson Controls until 1999. From 2000 to 2004, he served as contract manager for J&J Maintenance Incorporated at Travis AFB, CA.

Tom is a recipient of the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, and two Air Medals.

He holds Master of EE degree from Cal State and diplomas from Air War College and Air Command & Staff College.

Tom currently lives in Colorado Springs with his wife Sherry. He attends cultural and athletic events at his alma mater and is a proud member of the Old Trolls, a group of '64 guys living along Colorado's Front Range.
