Gone But Not Forgotten


MooreLASmall.jpg Captain Larry A. Moore, United States Air Force Academy Class of 1964, died on 6 December 1967 in an EB-66C crash in Thailand. He was buried at the Air Force Academy Cemetery 20 December 1967.

Larry reported to the Academy from Marion, IA via the enlisted ranks. While at the Academy, he was a member of the 5th Cadet Squadron. He was also a member of the varsity wrestling team.

Upon graduation, Larry was assigned to Undergraduate Navigator Training at Mather AFB, CA. In 1967, he was assigned to the 41st Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron at Takhli Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, where he was serving at the time of the incident. Control problems caused the EB-66C, of which he was a crew member, to crash 2000 feet from the end of the runway.

Larry was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart and the Air Medal for his service in Southeast Asia.

Captain Moore was survived by his wife, Diane, and two daughters, Mary and Susan, as well as his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer L. Moore.
