Gone But Not Forgotten
Captain George M Stevenson IV, United States Air Force Academy Class of 1964, died of unknown causes on 7 August 2008.
George reported to the Academy from the State of Connecticut. While at the Academy, he was a member of the 10th Cadet Squadron. He played end on the freshman and junior varsity football teams. He contributed directly to the spirit of the Cadet Wing through his characterization of the infamous “Bedcheck Charlie.”
Upon graduation, George was assigned to Undergraduate Pilot Training at Craig AFB, AL. From 1966 to early 1967, he was an RF-4 pilot at Toul-Rosieres AB, France. From late 1967 to 1968, he was an RF-4 pilot in the 11th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Udorn RTAB, Thailand. Following he combat tour of duty, George returned to the states and was assigned as a T-33 check pilot at Scott AFB, IL. George retired from the Air Force on 28 February 1970.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, George was a pilot for Delta Airlines, flying out of Houston, TX. In 1975, he earned a master's degree in business administration.
George was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and 10 Air Medals for his service in Southeast Asia.
