Gone But Not Forgotten
Lieutenant Colonel Joe Eusario Trujillo, United States Air Force Academy Class of 1964, passed away peacefully Friday May 4th, 2012, after a long hard battle against cancer.
Joe was born June 28, 1942 in Walsenburg, CO. As a young boy Joe dreamed of being pilot. After graduating high school in 1960 from St Mary's High School in Walsenburg Colorado, Joe entered the United States Air Force Academy with the Class of 1964. Joe graduated from the Academy June 3, 1964 and entered undergraduate pilot training at Webb Air Force Base, TX. He had an impressive career with many awards as a fighter pilot in the Vietnam War including the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star Medal. During Joe's career in the Air Force he also enjoyed training other pilots.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1989, Joe moved to Cuchara, Colorado and continued doing what he loved, flying his own plane inspecting pipe lines. Joe also was building his own plane, and just prior to completion, cancer prevented him from finishing and flying his plane.
Joe never gave up hope and like a fighter pilot he fought hard all the way. In the last weeks we witnessed a strong and determined man even as his body became weaker and frail. Most of his life Joe liked living the life as an Air Force officer pilot and had many expectations for him and others. He taught us many things including respect and integrity. Thank-you Joe for all the life lessons and allowing us to share them with you.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Joe E and Laura Trujillo. Joe is survived by six sisters, Lillian Clark, Louise Trujillo, Edna Barry, Lorraine Hartung, Carol Stives and Eileen McMullen, along with seven nieces and six nephews.
Fly above the clouds forever, Joe.
