Mike's HistoryIt is an honor and privilege to be part of the Class of 1964, and 2nd Squadron, in particular. I would like to cite and pay tribute to my squadron classmates who have "Flown West"--Pat Hardee, Bob Lodge, Ed Lorenzen, Max Manning, and Randy Vaeth. They were all a "class act", and I am saddened by their loss. I am thankful to have known John B., Mike G., Billy, John G., Ken, Mike H., Ray, Allan, Jim, Milt, Hank, Dennis, Frank, and Ward. I have great memories of all of you. After graduation, it was off to UPT at Williams AFB, where I met more of our classmates--Dennis Boesen, Jim Erickson, Phil Horton, Jim Jefferson, Tom McNish, Phil Roberts, Marty Pesut, Bill Sieg, and Kelly Wilson--with more great memories. After UPT, I was assigned to Castle AFB for KC-135 training. I was then based at Lockbourne AFB, where I had several TDY's to SEA, Alaska, and Labrador. After some time as a Stan-Eval co-pilot, I upgraded to AC, and subsequently received my own crew. In July, 1970, after several deployments and trips, I separated from the Air Force. I was hired by Eastern Airlines in October, 1970, and flew several different planes out of O'Hare, NYC, Boston and Atlanta. I left Eastern in March, 1989, and was hired by United Airlines in July, 1990. Most of my time with UAL was commuting to ORD from ATL, where I lived. I retired as a Captain/Line Check Airman from UAL in December, 2001. I have flown approximately 23,000 hours, and have type ratings in the B-707, B-720, B-737, B-757, and B-767. In early 1966, I married my high school sweetheart and soul mate, Janet, and thankfully, she is still putting up with me. Jan and I have been blessed with three wonderful daughters, two sons-in-law, and four grandchildren. Since retiring, Jan and I have become more active in our church, and enjoy our circle of friends. About three years ago, our grandchildren relocated from eleven hours away to one hour away, and it is a pleasure watching them grow up. In conclusion, I would like to express my thanks and admiration for our class. I am in awe of what so many of you have accomplished. You all make me proud to say that I am a part of the USAFA Class of 1964. My Family[ Home ] [ Table Of Contents ] |
