Horace Tufts Whitman IIIWhat’s Been HappeningI resigned from active duty in Aug 1969 and started employment with American Airlines in Sep 69. Initially based in Boston by American and still with a reserve commission, I joined the New Hampshire ANG flying C-124s. Not many folks our age have 124 time. In 1972 I moved to Vacaville and joined the C-141 Associate Reserve program at Travis AFB while flying out of SFO for American. Retirement from the reserves came 31 March 1985 as commander of the 708th MAS. By choice, I took early retirement from American on 1 Jan 1988. Our youngest son, Ryan, born in 1997, has never seen me go to work, but has loved having Dad at home. Our oldest – Katie – was born in 1991. I ran for Vacaville Unified School District school board in 1999 and was first of seven for three positions. I continue to enjoy serving on the Board. All of this is made possible by my wife, Laura. We were married in 1988 and have not looked back. We enjoy summers in Minnesota at our Pelican Lake place. I water skied until I was 67 and the fishing isn’t bad. Vacaville gives us the opportunity to have a year ‘round garden and we also have year ‘round fruit and nuts from our 30 plus trees. When not at home, Laura loves being a Doula. I started playing duplicate bridge again after 40 years, but I miss Watercloset as my partner.(Transcribed with permission from USAFA 2014 Register of Graduates) [ Gone But Not Forgotten ] [ Home ] [ Table Of Contents ] |
