Message from Our President
Greetings fellow Zoomies,
I'm Kimani Jefferson '98, the new Badger Chapter AOG
President. I reside
in Seymour, Wisconsin with my wife, Marcie, and two kids,
Helena and Pace.
If you are receiving this memo, it is presumed that you are
1) a graduate,
and 2) reside in Wisconsin. If either one of these
presumptions is untrue,
please let me know and the correspondence will cease.
This memo serves a few purposes: it is to explain who we
are, what we do,
and to ask you for help (while having fun at the same time).
If that sounds
like something you'd like to be a part of, please keep
reading; if not, I'm
sorry for wasting your time.
The Badger Chapter is a relatively new organization. Our
purpose is to
further the principles of USAFA through service through
community, country,
and graduates of USAFA. That was verbatim from the bylaws.
How I look at
it, though, is that we are primarily a networking community
that also
furthers the principles of the Academy. Those who have gone
through the zoo
have a unique perspective and it is nice, from time to time,
to associate
with those who share that perspective. And when I look back
at my time
there, I don't miss the place as much as I miss the people I
came of age
with. If this association gives me 1% of that same
satisfaction, it will be
worth it. So, what is coming up this year:
1) Our annual meeting at the Wisconsin Club in
Milwaukee. As Shannon
Yenchesky wrote, this Club was formerly the Mitchell
family's home. It is
rich in tradition and apropos for what we are about.
2) Quarterly Events - We are planning on doing fun social
events at
least once a quarter. Some ideas for these events are
fishing trips, wine
tasting, and beer tasting. We would like to maximize
participation so any
other ideas will be much appreciated.
3) Air Force Football Games - In case you didn't know, we
did win the
Commander-in-Chief's Trophy this year (no, not that one). We
held a
competition to see which alumni group would bring out the
largest
contingency to watch each game this year. Even though we
lost the actual
games, we posted the largest alumni group at the events to
take to trophy.
4) ANY OTHER IDEAS YOU MAY HAVE....ANY, AS LONG AS IT'S
FUN!
My primary vision for the group is to be looked upon as a
representation
of everything good that our Alma Mater produces. Over the
past few years,
we've taken a beating in the press. Our group will represent
the very real
and positive impact the zoo has had on our society and the
individuals who
have marched on the terrazzo.
If you would like to come along on this journey, email me
or Shannon.
Heck, call me: my number is 920-833-9340. If you have any
interest at all,
please try to make it to Wisconsin Club on February 4th. It
will be a good
time. Hope to meet ALL OF YOU very soon.
