Good morning!  It's going to be a warm day today.  Also, it's going to be a shopping day.  Some of the squadrons get to go back to the Cadet Store to pick up a few "bits and bobs" to get them through BCT.

WebGuy
Translation:
English "bits and bobs";
New Jersey "junk";
American "stuff";
Proper English "items required".

Sorry for the absence.  Apparently, my posting of the clips yesterday and the day before caused a bit of a "technical problem".  There is something called "bandwidth" that measures the amount of data traveling to and fro on websites.  Well, a normal day for our website over the past year has been a certain number.  Let's call it X.

Well, your viewing of this material has caused the number to jump to 48X.  Aiiieeeee!  Needless to say, it has caused a ripple effect through the rest of the website.

So, after my chastisement an hour ago, I'm working on a a new solution.  Sometime today, I'll move the clips to a new location.  Then, I'll go back and relink each clip to that new address.

Also, I know the new version of the clips is great for quick viewing, but they can't be downloaded.  I'm working on that.  I'll keep you informed.

The march out to Jacks Valley will take place on Friday.  Here is the text of the Press Release from the USAFA Public Affairs.

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY PUBLIC AFFAIRS, USAF ACADEMY, CO 80840 (719) 333-7731

Subject: Air Force Academy news release 099 - Trainees march out to tent city Friday
News Release 099

TRAINEES MARCH OUT TO TENT CITY FRIDAY
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Academy’s Class of 2010 marches 3.2 miles from the Terrazzo to a tent city in Jacks Valley Friday, to begin the field portion of Basic Cadet Training.

Ten squadrons, consisting of almost 1,300 basic cadet trainees, along with their cadet training cadre and Academy leaders, will step off at 7:10 a.m. from the Terrazzo in the Academy Cadet Area.  Their march will take them through several parts of the Academy and end in the Jacks Valley training area.  Once there, the trainees will set up their tent city.

In addition to living in a tent city, the field portion of Basic Cadet Training includes running assault and obstacle courses, learning first aid and completing a leadership reaction course.  Basic cadets also participle in weapons drills, physical fitness tests, inspections, and other military training to further develop the physical abilities, teamwork and leadership potential.

Basic Cadet Training started June 29 and continues through Aug. 5

The march out to Jacks Valley is quite a sight.  Here are some three photos from last year.

NewsFlash!
WebGuy's overuse of bandwidth blamed for US Military inadvertently going to DEFCON 2, as well as the outage of LAX electrical grid and air traffic control yesterday.  Investigation still going on into whether destruction of Pompeii and disappearance of Atlantis can be tied to WebGuy.  More news at 11.

Jacks Valley
This is where BCT gets physical and interesting.  The Basics are now acclimated to the altitude.  They will participate in a variety of activities such as the Assault Course, Obstacle Course, Confidence Course.

As the Press Release indicates above, the Basics will step off at 0710 MDT.

If they follow the same course as last year (I'm checking)
, they will march west out of the Cadet Area, head north on Academy Drive, turn left out in to the back woods, stomp around the back woods for a while, jump back on to North Gate Blvd, march past the B-52, and turn left into Jacks Valley.  Last year, a number of folks parked at the B-52 to watch.

Out in Jacks Valley, they will hear an address from the Commandant from 1000 - 1030 MDT.  After that, it is a long, hot day of setting up tents, getting equipment, etc.  In the evening, they will have Personal Time or Chapel from 1900 - 2000 MDT.  Then, its the normal evening brief, hygiene TAPS.

On Saturday, they hit the Jacks Valley events full force with squadrons beginning the courses, first aid etc.  I'll track down some descriptions of the events so you can know what each one means.

I caught these Basics waiting to use the Loo. (Restroom) one of the Basics saw me coming and quickly got his book out.  Can you guess who it was? hint - Maybe it was your son!

That's all Folks! I am going home to check my little Basics. I would hate for them to think I wasn't coming home and cook dinner!

Nighty night.  (Good Night)

A WebGal works from sun to sun, but a WebGuy's job is never done.
(Probably because she is more efficient)

Yes, I'm still here.  There is a terrible thunderstorm here on the Academy.  It is a nice show of lightning.

If you get a chance, write to your Basic and encourage them to "gut it out".  They will come out of Jacks Valley feeling like confident, well-oiled machines.  Tell them to keep Acceptance Parade as their goal.  Then one minute after the Acceptance Parade, write them and say "just get through the first semester", etc. etc.

Good night from WebGuy.

Hey, the web stats say there are 196 of you on the site right now.  Go to bed :)

Unless you are the people logged in from
Australia.  Then you should stay on.  But a question for you.  Do the pictures show up on your computers upside down?
